Verizon Wireless to Make Mobile Communication Easier for Blinds
Verizon Wireless is about to release a new service, which will aid the blinds and people with visual defects to use their cell phone in an effective manner. Titled as TALKS, this new service will facilitate MOTO Q9c as the first smart phone device to take advantage of this initiative of Verizon Wireless. Nuance Communications is the company behind the development of this service, which is expected to be launched from March 15.
This service will work by converting the text into clear speech and guiding the people with visual impairments about their actions. For instance, the user will be informed about the number dialed by him from the list of contacts. Other features of the cell phone facilitated by this service will be caller ID, editing the entries in the contact list and adding new contact, using utilities like Excel and Word on mobile and so on. Even the internet surfing and MMS compositions will be facilitated by TALKS.
It is not the first attempt by a company to entertain the communication needs of visually impaired users. Before this, K-NFB Reading Technology joined hands with Nokia to facilitate a similar service using N82. From all these developments, we can realize the refinement being brought in the mobile communication by big players of the industry.
MOTO Q 9c, facilitated with TALKS, will be available at the price tag of $249.99 after signing the contract with the mobile carrier. The users, who already have this device, can contact the customer service branch of Verizon Wireless to initiate the service.
