Smart Phone Market Growth Continues in Second Quarter
Smart phone market unsurprisingly maintained its trend to grow during the second quarter of 2010. The growth rate of 64 percent compared to last year’s Q2is phenomenal and every smart phone manufacturing company has contributed towards it.
Talking about the worldwide smart phone market, Nokia has sustained its top position by shipping the largest number of smart phone devices to the world. As many as 23.8 million units were shipped by the manufacturer, recording the growth rate of 41 percent. Nokia 5230 and other affordable smart phones from the manufacturer have helped it to enjoy the market share of 38 percent.
Research in Motion has secured the total market share of 18 percent in the second quarter and enjoys the position at number two. Apple with 13 percent market share is at number three position. Despite all the criticism that iPhone 4 faced, Apple was able to increase the number of shipments to the world by 61 percent.
Android showed an amazing growth of 886 percent in the second quarter. The smart phone market in the United States witnessed the growth of 41 percent with 14.7 million devices shipped to the country’s stores. Out of that, 34 percent were the Android based smart phones. RIM enjoys the strongest position in the US market with market share of 32.1 percent. Apple takes the second position with 21.7 percent of the total market share.
Smart phones are indeed making smart profits in all the markets of the world and the trend is going to continue for the upcoming months as well.
