Samsung to Introduce Powerful Architecture in Upcoming Devices
Samsung Omnia was endowed with 600MHz Cortex-A8 processor and the processor made this Samsung device to support 720p videos. Now, the cell phone manufacturer has joined hands with Intrinsity to introduce powerful processor architecture in the form of ARM Cortex-A8. The processor has been codenamed as Hummingbird and it will be based upon 45 nm low-power, low-leakage process technology. So, you can expect exciting 2000DMIPS at 1GHz for the devices supported by this processor.
The processor is going to be twice as fast and powerful as Appleās iPhone 3GS. Apart from that, it is capable of utilizing energy efficiently by running fast, even at a low voltage value of 1.0V. Thus, cell phone devices will have a capable processor in the form of Hummingbird.
If Samsung Omnia was able to support 720p videos, the devices running on Hummingbird will be able to able to provide 108p high definition video recording. So, one needs not to hesitate in believing the promise made by the Hummingbird developers that within 3-4 years, the Cortex family will be able to rule the mobile application market.
Hummingbird can be expected to feature in the upcoming Samsung devices, though no specific device has been named to contain it. Also, other processor developing companies are utilizing the time to prepare competitors for Cortex family processors. One good example is that of Snapdragon mobile processor, that has been launched in Toshiba TG01 Pocket PC. So, the war of processors is going to be interesting with the introduction of Hummingbird.
