Qwest Renewed the Workers Agreement to End the Proposed Strike

After long negotiations between Qwest Communication International and communications Workers of America, the infamous phone company has finally managed to settle down the issues related to workforce of the company. It must be recalled that the company was afraid of facing a strike from the labor union on different issues like labor wages and labor health facilities.

The spokesperson from the company told the media that company had previously proposed a three year agreement with labor union, which was not accepted by the labor representatives on certain grounds. However, the company managed to modify the agreement within two weeks and this time, the four year agreement influenced the labor union. Thus, a serious situation of strike has been successfully averted.

The agreement, which is expected to come into force by the end of the month, received vote of approval from as many as 57 percent of total employees working in the company. Thus, the agreement was welcomed with open arms by the labor union.

The representatives from Communications Workers of America are happy with the agreement and consider it as a fair deal for the workers of the company. According to them, the agreement is capable of offering appreciable wages to the employees, along with health care allowances.

The agreement offers 12.6 percent rise in the wages offered to the workers, as against the 9 percent rise offered in previous agreement. Also, $75 will be offered per month to the family coverage and health plans. Along with that, there will be a 3 percent rise in the pension offered to those retiring after Oct 12.
