New Platforms Making Way to Samsung and LG Handsets
The role of powerful platforms is indispensable in the success of the modern age smart phones. The success of Samsung’s highly popular processor called Hummingbird is known to all. The manufacturer has now announced the new platform which is going to be the successor of Hummingbird.
The new platform called Orion brings 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU and a GPU with better features. Besides, it promises video encoding and decoding at the rate of 1080p. The graphics accelerator in the new platform is 5 times better than its predecessor. The HDMI 1.3a interface supports 3 displays, including one external display. The manufacturer partners of Samsung will get Orion not before Q4.
LG has announced its preparations for new range of smart phones that will be based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform. The key features of the platform are dual core 1GHz processor and support for full HD playback. The energy-efficient G-Force GPU and excellent gaming and browsing support too are offered by the new platform. And, 1080p video playback is another feature worth mentioning.
It is confirmed that the first LG device to utilize the new platform will be form the manufacturer’s Optimus family. You will get to see the smart phones based on Tegra 2 platform by the Q4 of the year. Android and Windows Phone 7 are the two OS choices being considered for the Tegra 2 devices.
