AT&T to Restrict the Bandwidth Usage to 150GB
AT&T, the leading mobile and broadband service provider in United States, is ready to penalize its subscribers, who go out of limit in using the restricted bandwidth. The company is all set to follow the decision of Comcast, which recently implanted a similar decision for its residential customers.
As per the company’s decision, the subscribers will be allowed to use bandwidth within the limit of 20 GB to 150 GB. The decision of the company is at its experimental stage and is being conducted for customers in Reno, Nevada. However, the company is willing to extend this decision to an additional market in the country.
According to this experiment, the users in various regions will be enforced to get enrolled within the limit decided by the company. The users, who will cross the bandwidth limit of 150 GB per month, will be penalized with a fine of $1 per GB over the prescribed limit. However, the fine will be imposed after notifying the customer for his or her first attempt to break the rule. The total fine will be informed to the customer at least 60 days before the actual billing.
The company will facilitate its subscribers with bandwidth measuring tool to help them know the bandwidth used by them. Also, the company will take the responsibility of informing customers at the point, when 80 percent of their bandwidth gets exhausted.
According to company spokesman, the customers in various regions are using excessive bandwidth for uploading, downloading and emailing. Thus, this step will help to balance the distribution of bandwidth amongst all the customers.
