AT&T to follow Footprints of Verizon Wireless to Extend Wireless Links

Verizon Wireless, the second most popular mobile service in United States, extended its network support to devices other than a cell phone earlier this year. Now, AT&T, the number one mobile service in the country, is all set to earn name in the same field. And none other than Glenn Lurie is going to head the project to include AT&T network support for devices like satellite navigations systems, digital cameras and computers.

Lurie is the same executive, who headed the finalization of company’s deal with Apple for providing support to popular US iPhone products. Now, the executive is expected to successfully handle the project for providing network support to third-party devices.

To participate in the race of network extension to third party devices, Sprint Nextel will be the next name to try its hands in the field. Finally, the biggies in the field of mobile services are ready for a new war, which is certainly going to affect their rankings in the market.

However, an issue related to these services will be the compatibility of various technologies used by all these mobile services to work in association with third party devices, other than mobiles. In case of incompatible technologies, the electronic device manufacturers will have to design separate devices to take advantage of new services launched by AT&T and other mobile services.

AT&T works on GSM, while Verizon utilizes CDMA technology to run its network. Only time will decide, which of these technologies will be able to form good association with various electronic devices.
