AT&T to Follow Footprints of Sprint for Femtocells
AT&T, the leading mobile carrier in United States, has decided to dedicate its testing schedules for femtocells, which are also known as cell-booster devices. These devices are capable of eradicating the problem of weak cell phone signals, a common situation faced by cell phone subscribers across the country. The popular service provider is expected to launch its new components on trial basis next year.
The company is in the process of testing the functioning of these femtocells in the homes of their own employees. These components are available in the form of small boxes and can be termed as mini cell phone towers. Femtocells will be used to relay the weak wireless signals with the help of high speed internet connection available with the subscribers.
Apart from AT&T, other mobile carriers in the country are adopting similar paths to enhance the quality of wireless signals at different areas. While Sprint has managed to be the first company for launching its femtocells in the market, Verizon Wireless is also working on the plan. As for T-Mobile, another successful name in the industry, it is aiming at accomplishing this task with the help of Wi-Fi routers.
Going a step further than Sprint, which offers femtocells for low data connections, AT&T has decided to dedicate their femtocells for cellular broadband, operating at 3G speeds. However, these brand names are expected to face the hurdles in the form of interference caused by different types of signals on the way. But, we can expect a solution as well from these carriers.
