AT&T Goes Disobedient with Windows, Finds New Prospects with Symbian

The Symbian operating system platform is securing good reputation in the market and the credit goes to its ability to perform better functions and allow a free hand to application developers. The latest instance for the popularity of Symbian OS surfaced, when AT&T, the leading cell phone carrier in United States displayed its willingness to adopt this modern platform for its handset devices.

As a result, the existence of Windows Mobile platform is going to be lowered down and it is a not a good news for people behind this platform. According to AT&T spokesman, the company is making efforts to bring down the cost of maintaining operating platforms for different devices and thus, Symbian is a luring option these days. Thus, restriction to a popular platform will definitely bring down the associated problems.

The news that Apple succeeded in selling more handsets than those based on Windows Mobile in the third quarter of this year has further encouraged AT&T to take this decision. The figure for above news has been obtained from calculation at a global level and not just United States.

Symbian has been credited for its vast capabilities, which can allow a mobile application developer to experiment at an advanced level. This will help devices from AT&T to contain more significant features than those based upon other platforms and hence the decision.

However, AT&T has decided to retain Apple portfolio in its devices. Also, there are chances that Windows and AT&T will again form an association, but that seems to be postponed till 2014.
