Android Heading Towards a Great Finish This Year
Android is the smart phone operating system that has been making impressive records from the first day of its being. This year too, one can expect the Android platform to experience great growth. The latest achievement of Android can be seen with Google Nexus One, the device that has been added to the roadmap of every popular carrier in the United States. After being released on T-Mobile, the Android device was also made available at AT&T and Verizon for their subscribers. And now, it is the turn of Sprint to enhance the device’s presence in the market.
Google Buzz Widget and Google TV are other features that have been added to the spectrum of Android services for the devices running on this platform. With Google TV, the Android OS will be made capable of bringing social networking and other features to the TV sets.
The recent reports have predicted that Android will have its market share increased from 9.7% to 18.9% by the end of 2010. If that happens, the Android OS is going to successfully double its growth rate. As many as 12.3 million devices based on Android will be shipped this year, as compared to 4.3 million of 2009. This means that Android’s total sale will surpass the combined sale of Symbian, Microsoft and Palm operating systems.
Another interesting prediction says that Blackberry, Apple and Android operating systems are together going to have 80% of the total smart phones in the market. Note here that the above-mentioned statistics are only for the United States market.
