Getting a new cell phone is no mean task. Irrespective of whether you are looking for an upgrade or just a basic cell phone, you are going to have to do some research before you walk away with a new phone. Let me warn you that it will not help that there are so many great cell phone brands in the market. From Nokia and Apple to LG and Motorola, the average consumer is bound to be bewildered by the sheer numbers of cell phone brands. How do you know which one is the best? How do you decide which phone model you should go in for?
The general consensus with regard to cell phone brands seems to be that it does not get better than Nokia. Most people that I meet swear by their Nokia phones. The feeling seems to be that as far as reception and hardiness are concerned, Nokia is a class apart from other cell phone brands. However, these are personal opinions, and there are quite a number of others who will crib about Nokia and highlight the advantages of using phone by other cell phone brands like Apple and Motorola.
The point to remember is that every cell phone has its share of advantages and drawbacks. It is a little unfair to club all the phones from one brand into one category based on the performance of just one or two models. However, having said that, cell phone brands -- especially the established ones -- offer reliability and good service. These are a great choice for consumers who are somewhat technologically handicapped. At least if you are going in for one of the reputed cell phone brands, you will feel a little more secure in your choice, than if you were to buy a cell phone from an obscure manufacturer.
In my opinion, however, it is best to not get swayed by the brand name. If you are buying a phone, make sure that you evaluate each phone objectively, without considering the brand name. At the end of the day, you want good 24/7 service from your phone. As long as you get good reception and coverage, and as long as your cell phone offers the features that you require and is user-friendly, nothing else matters.
Look at aspects like battery life, sound quality, and size, before making a choice. If you are a music buff, look for a phone that is also a music device. Sony Ericsson has a range of phones that have great sound quality. And if you want to get a really cool music device with Internet connectivity thrown in, then the Apple iPhone is just the thing for you. If looks are your prime motivator, it doesn't get better than the LG Prada.
If you want to find a cell phone that is just right for you, you are going to have to look beyond the brand name. Yes, brand names do matter. But when you are choosing from among a variety of great cell phone brands, just look for a cell phone that has all the features that you want.
