The CellularOne is one of the America's most bearing and recognized brands in wireless telephony. CellularOne continues to rank as the leading brand for the independent carrier and offers quality cellular service in many metropolitan areas like Bermuda, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. It is a national alignment of more than 20 wireless carriers. CellularOne is the registered service mark of the CellularOne Group and it is fully owned by the Western wireless corporation and the CellularOne group located in Bellevue, WA. In 1983 the first call on a commercial cellular system was made and CellularOne service area began in 1984. Now a days there are more than 132 million wireless subscribers in the US and the options for wireless technology are endless. The digital services offered by CellularOne are either TDMA or CDMA.

In 1977 the Motorola Cell Phones company and the American Radio Telephone Service formed CellularOne to offer service to the Washington D.C. Area. McCaw Communications and Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems established a partnership known as CellularOne Group in 1989. Vanguard Cellular Systems joined the group in 1992. BellSouth combined their wireless operations into Cingular wireless in 2001, the CellularOne group name became the only property of Western wireless. Cingular merged with AT&T wireless in 2004. Western Wireless controlled under the CellularOne brand prior to being purchased by Alltel.

CellularOne brand name was also used by Dobson Cellular in several markets in the US and Alaska and working under the CellularOne brand. Dobson purchased the rights to the CellularOne name from Alltel in 2005. Dobson uses a GSM and TDMA network where as Western wireless uses CDMA, AMPS and TDMA networks. New GSM services also allow the customer to choose from a wide range of handsets that offers popular features, such as camera Cell Phones, voice calling, color video screens, voice mail and text messaging. It also comes with high-speed data functions that include wireless Internet access and email.

The CellularOne Group was established to own, manage and encourage the CellularOne brand nationwide. The Western Wireless was a wireless telecommunications supplier in the western united states, specialized in rural service. Western wireless corporation basically operated under the CellularOne brand. CellularOne services is the first US wireless provider to make the new Kyocera Aktiv phone available to its customers since its joint venture with Kyocera in 2004. The Aktiv Cell Phones which uses CDMA technology, is available to CellularOne services subscribers. CellularOne claims that the Aktiv phone, a flashy rubberized handset made with extra strength for users.
